Historical Pearls Exhibited at National Museum of Natural History in Paris

National Museum of Natural History in Paris has recently opened an exhibition to celebrate the collection of historical pearls. Known as “Perles, une histoire naturelle in French” (translated to English as Pearls a natural history), the exhibition would run from 25 October to 10 March 2008.

Pearls symbolize grace and purity and for this reason people love pearls from the old time..

Pearls; A Natural History tells the story in rich detail about famous jewelry collection from famous people around the world. It was originally developed by the American Museum of Natural History in NY and the filed Museum in Chicago..

The exhibition features half a million pearls including pearls and jewelries which have historical and aesthetic values around the world. You will discover how mollusks form pearls and will be amazed with a variety of their colors, shapes and sizes.

The highlights of the exhibition are:

A mussel shell of the Biwa Lake festooned with cultured pearls blister.

The Marie-Antoinette pearls Necklace

Featured below is a brooch offered by Prince Albert to Queen Victoria (Great-Britain 1843) on their heir 3rd wedding anniversary. The brooch is decorated with pearls, amethysts, garnet, chrysoberyls.

just by looking at those historical pearls it really does take me back to history without being at the National Museum of Natural History in Paris...
