Jews' jewelry from Holocaust donated to memorial
As a slave laborer in Auschwitz, Meyer Hack was forced to sort through the tattered clothing stripped off inmates before they were sent to the gas chambers. He gathered valuable belongings hidden inside the clothes, stuffed them in a sock, hid them and later spirited them to freedom.
On Monday, the 95-year-old survivor now living in Boston donated eight pieces of gold, silver and diamond-studded jewelry to Israel's Holocaust memorial, Yad Vashem, as a tribute to the original owners, who perished.

Quintessence gold-plated turntable from Transrotor
Remember DaVinciAudio Labs’ AAS Gabriel turntable with gold-leafing on it? Now the time has come to revive the memories, with Transrotor’s Quintessence for those with deep pockets. The luxury turntable comes with a lustrous layer of chrome and gold to give it classier look. The turntable appears to be something more like a piece of art crafted for the purpose of showing up in a museum. It is designed to create quality music output by zeroing noise and vibrations by means of isolating the pick-up arm from the rest of the body. As the product page suggests, the clear style of the device, the audio output of highest quality, exclusivity and the absolutely mature musical qualities are a few advantages of the turntable that convince a buyer to shell out a hefty amount of $38,790 to get his or her hands on one. By incorporating all standard traits of the manufacturer, this device utilizes hydrodynamic bearings with black acrylic gilt weights embedded in the (bearing) reservoir. The turntable weighs around 70 kg.

$60,000 wristwatch that is impossible to counterfeit
The luxury wristwatch market is flooded with fakes these days, and it’s kinda hard to tell the difference between the two. But now, Swiss watchmaker Vacheron Constantin is claiming to have made a wristwatch that is impossible to counterfeit. Dubbed the Quai de I’lle, the watch features invisible UV marking, laser perforations, high-security inks, and other techniques employed to secure passports and currencies. Some of the models available in this watch collection tout tiny text on the dials, which can be read only with the help of a magnifying glass. Pricing starts at $12,000 for the “impossible to counterfeit” wristwatch and can go as high as $60,000, depending on the styles and deterrents used. They have plans to make 800 Quai de I’lles a year.

The Gold iPhone
There's not much space to put the gold on an iPhone so not sure if the price (which is still TBA) will reflect that or not. Just don't add any diamonds anywhere, please (although I'm sure that's next...).

Gold and Jeweled Chess Set
Royalty in ancient India played a form of Chess called Shatranj. Sadly, all they had was silk cloth board and usual dice. If they knew about the latest artistic investment in the game of Chess, they would have been amazed. For instance, The Art Of War board and dice, designed by Victor F. Scharstein. Imagine rhodium and gold chess pieces dancing at your command on a decked up ebony board.
Every piece is tastefully decorated with diamonds, rubies, emeralds, sapphires and other precious stones. Even the legs of the board are all gold- having eight all gold balls. It will be priced at nearly $50,000. It is said that all other parts of the game such as the lock and the key, the hinges and the handle are made of gold. I can imagine how much motivation a thief will have to break open the lock and get away with it.
My other concern is that of functionality itself. Would not so much of glitter distract the attention away from the game? But may be that is also a positive point if you twist the argument a little.

Real Gold Beauty Threading - 24K Gold Facelift
477 Views - Click for Larger Image
The newest facelift on the market is the gold thread facelift, which involves a 24-carat gold mesh framework being sewn permanently under the surface of the skin.
The patient remains awake as four yards of gold thread are inserted, the only painkiller being dozens of local anesthetic injections applied to the face.
At a cost of around £2,000, the facelift takes three months to show the results, as the gold mesh stimulates the body’s own production of collagen, which in turn plumps up the skin naturally.
The procedure can be used on the neck, décolletage, hands, arms, legs, abdomen and even the buttocks.
Stitch by stitch guide
1. The areas to be treated are covered with a numbing cream and injected with local anesthetic.
2. The 24 carat, 0.1mm diameter, 99 per cent pure gold thread is implanted into the anaesthetised area, threaded within the skin under the epidermis using a 1mm gauge needle and a blanket-type stitch to create a net-like structure that will provide a mechanical support to the overlying skin.
3. The thread must be implanted accurately into the ‘papillary dermis’ - the layer of skin directly beneath the surface.
4. The doctor repeats this process in all the areas to be treated.
5. The face is cleaned and make-up can be applied to cover up bruised or red areas.

Freshwater pearls
Freshwater pearls differ from other cultured pearls in that the great majority are not bead-nucleated. Freshwater mollusks are nucleated by creating a small incision in the fleshy mantle tissue of a 6 to 12 month old mussel, and inserting a 3mm square piece of mantle tissue from a donor mussel.
The Japanese have a distinguished history of culturing freshwater pearls as well. Lake Biwa was once world renowned for producing high-quality freshwater pearls produced by the Hyriopsis schlegeli (Biwa pearly mussel) mussel. However, in the mid 1970's pearl farming all but came to a halt due to pollution in this lake that was once synonymous with freshwater pearls.
Freshwater pearls cover the widest range of color and shape than any other pearl type. Originally these pearls were marketed as a lower quality, inexpensive alternative to akoya pearls. For this reason, they were typically used by jewelry designers for pieces that favored design over the gems themselves. However, since the 1990s, a class of freshwater pearls(AA-AAA quality) that are round and lustrous have emerged which rival akoya pearls in both quality and value. Freshwater pearls cover the widest range of options for pearl buyers in size, shape and color.

Nacre, also known as mother-of-pearl, is the basic substance which is secreted by oysters and mollusks to form the inside of their shells.
Mother of Pearls symbolism represents fertility and rebirth.
Mother-of-pearl is the basic substance which is secreted by oysters and mollusks to form the inside of their shells. It is the same substance which forms pearls.
In the mid-20th century, mother-of-pearl was also used to produce shiny buttons for clothing. South Sea pearls became the area staple, this small town thrived on the Pinctada maxima mother-of-pearl business.
Mother-of-pearl is now used as the nucleus in pearl cultivation. The shell of a mussel is cut into squares and then run through a process which rounds the pieces into beads. These beads are then implanted into the oysters which then secrete nacre upon the mother-of-pearl beads to form the cultured pearl.
